Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - 09 Rush Hour - 'kerin' bars, lugged fork, red accents

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Has there been a thread about the 2009 Rush Hour? I like the new fork, but I'm not sure about the red accents or the bars. I think the 08 (http://www.raleighusa.com/bikes/road/2008-road/rush-hour-2008/) with the 09 fork would have been a really classy entry, but it looks like they are moving in a different direction.

It looks okay, nothing special, kind of dull really.

I like this bike a lot more then most stock singlespeeds.
I think they done well.
looks like it is moving in the same direction as most of the people on this board. It's not a bad thing, it's just what's "cool".

they expect everyone to keep the drops on. no risers for THIS track machine.
AND they're taking money right out of chris and phil's pockets with colored headsets and hubs. why in god's name would anyone want to upgrade components when their stock ones are already sooooooo damn cool looking.

It's not really a TT protector at all, its just a badge on the top tube. It's 2 separate peaces. It also is not permanent, just a little foam back tape. They have it on all there steel frame bikes even there touring bike.

why no water bottle cages? . . . no long rides? : ( other than that, the bike looks fantastic : ) i really like the new fork . . . .
now if we could just get it with pursuit bars . . . ahh, that would be something!!

That's a nice looking bike. Is the pricing for the 09 going to be different?

I think its a lot more expensive than the 08 bike. Anyone know if '08s are still available?

I saw a couple of 08's in a LBS last week.
I prefer the simplicity of the 08's, but I'm sure the new one will sell well. It's good marketing.

One 'cross lever says: 'I ride responsibly with a brake for emergencies'
2 'cross levers says: 'DERRR, I got drop bars on my bike, but I never uses 'em. I like my hands at the top.'

I am guessing your kiddin' since bmx components have come in all kinds of colors for years. I don't know why more track/road manufacturers don't. If you were joking, nm.

if only surly would show the color scheme for the 09 steamroller, then i could actually make a finalized decision for my wife's singlespeed.

2 cross levers says this is also a good single speed, and it sez the people at Raleigh are wise enough to know that it is the same as brakeless, to a rider with a mind of their own.

That's crazy. That's essentially the color scheme I'm doing now, except flat black instead of glossy.
Weird. They must be spying on me.
Looks nifty.

Extremely over-priced! Not a fan at all.

slacker headtube angle, too. 73.5 as opposed to 74/75. Not that anybody is really going to need that.
I think it's ugly. I prefer my 08 and I love the 08 fork. The 09 is supposedly going to cost something upwards of 700 dollars.
How much is a Raleigh Rush Hour? I'm thinking of getting one, but I'm not sure. Damn laptop with cached page. Last post I saw was the "too expensive for me". $700 is a lot, but I'm willing to spend that on a bike to get something good.

I think that is the 08 bike. The 09 just has the $$$$ thing that is $700 - $1,100 according to their site. The 08 was just $$$ and that is $400-$700
I mean it’s a reynolds frame and all but you can get an IRO with a frame just that good or better for just over 700 or right under I have not priced them recently.
Bottom line I don't think that the 09 RH is worth $700+

Supposedly with the increased demand for bikes and other global factors affecting supply of materials all bikes are going to be more expensive in the coming year. This is what I've heard, and I admit to not having a completely solid grasp on the info underlying this statement, but I've been hearing it alot.
Take that as you may, this bike seems to be falling into that trend as well

yeah, I was referring to the 08. The price question was about the 08, not the 09.

IMHO, the 09 looks pretty bad-ass. The price might just be bad, however.
its pretty nice, it basically what I want but that price i could build a TT frame to my specs and for less. oh well.

Yes, for the 08s. I purchased my 08 for less than $500, though. Deals can be found or made on the 08, especially now that the 09s are about to come out.

Agreed. Much better looking.
Sucks that I had to spend an extra $200 to make the 08 look a little more tolerable (to me):

I have an 07 Rush Hour, and it's a really great bike. It more or less looks like the new one (Soma 456 bars, and one cross lever), so had they gone this direction sooner, I could've saved some money.
The new Clubman though...HAWT.

I wouldn't be so sad Powerband, your Rush Hour still looks pretty sweet, better than the '09 (and for less too it sounds like).

not necessarily, you want to keep your weight back when braking, and when i had a cross lever on the top of my track bars i would use it if i was on top, otherwise just backpedal when in the drops. if i really needed to slow down id pop up top, which was better for braking anyway

ok fine, whatev I say to this bike. Good bike in many ways.
Overall my beef is:
red hubs = silly
head tube angle is to shallow
too much fork rake
or at least that geometry is ill suited to a bike
with psuedo track drops. if you want chill
angles for long rides/rough pavement then
put a rando bar on it and some cane creek
levers with gum hoods and loose the silly
tarck look.

Really really ugly. No offense to anyone who likes it, or anything like that, but that thing is HEINOUS.
I just talked to LBS in NoHo,CA yesterday. I was told they should have the bike in a few weeks. I was also told that it was expected to be priced between $700-$749... not much news:rolleyes: I didn't ask how much they priced the '08 model though, doh!

Your hearing right.
With the high demand for the materials the prices have gone up globaly, in the bmx world the new 09 completes that last year were 350 now go for at least 410. Thats about a 15-17% mark up. And thats the low end of stuff.
