BMX - What to ask for on birthday?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I`m asking for a new BMX bike for my birthday, my LBS only carries mirraco so i`m trying to decide between asking for a mirraco
http://www.mirrabikeco.com/bikes_blend_one.html
or
any of the bikes at danscomp, 300-500$
oh and i`ve seen in videos that when some riders pedal backwards the bike travels backwards, sorry i dont know what this is called but if any bikes come with one it would be nice, but i dont have to have one.
THanks,E

only go with the blend if you're a slightly shorter rider.
and when you backpedal, it isnt propelling the bike backwards. the pawls in a cassette hub will catch and cause you to backpedal. not backpedaling while riding is only done with a freecoaster, of which i am ordering in the next couple days. theres a BIIIIIIIG difference between the two. check it out on the web.
Ok, i sort of get it now, but any suggestions?

mirracos are any good? I say yes. I have a LBD that I have bought many bikes from. They are the only brand he now sells and I trust his judgment.

why is it small for me ? (5,8)

ok, are the specs good on this one? I'm not too thrilled about loose ball hubs on a $400 bike. But, wheels will need replacing at some point anyway and it does have double wall rims. If you do get it from your LBD he should be willing to stand behind it if issues arise. I would pony up to the Blend 2. As stated the frame on the 1 is a little short for you.

20'' is small id go up to at least a 20.5'' frame.
New info as good as bicycles plus is with mountain bikes, i found another lbs, i gave them a call and asked what brands of bmx bikes they stock and he replied "all of them and if theres anything we dont have in stock that he could order any company`s bikes too, so.. under 400$ more on the street and vert side but mainly street? any suggestions?

Yes, go visit him first. Sounds like a sales ploy to get you in. Most shops can get almost any bike, but if they are not a dealer or their distributor does not have a connection then it will cost you more. See what he stocks and ask him what other brands he has access to. Put the ball in his court. Don't educate him on what you are looking for initially. Hopefully he knows his stuff and can provide the right bike and service for you. :)

mirraco makes good bikes, but if your looking to spend around 300-500 u might want to check out eastern on danscomp, they make great bikes

eastern blows. except for sprockets cause they make em really light, and its kinda hard to screw up a sprocket. but all of their other parts are ****.

It's easy to screw up a sprocket, ask eastern how they did it.

I like my tree.
quick question, until i get a new bike i`m still riding my mirraco and the chain keepes coming loose i keep re-tensioning it and it keps coming loose, what do i do?

Tighten it all the way and make sure the bolt is tight. Get a chain tensioner?
I went to the new shop today and they carry hoffman, GT, haro, DK, and eastern. they only had one or two of each brand so i rode one of each, of all of them i liked the eastern battery the most, the geometry was very comftorable. they said they could order other bikes form them so i`m looking at the eastern element is it any good? They also said that i could trade in my mirraco for credit.

I've heard from a few posters that Eastern should be avoided. What about Premium and Colony?

not to sure what i think about colony at the mo, some of their stuff seems scetch, but their completes are probably solid. Premium make very nice completes.
The bikes i`m considering from my LBS are
From Premium:
solo- http://www.danscomp.com/101001.php?cat=BIKES -349.99 LBS
duo- http://www.danscomp.com/101002.php?cat=BIKES -429.99 LBS
from Eastern:
element: http://www.danscomp.com/101557.php?cat=BIKES -449.99 LBS
out of these three which do you suggest, i`ll be riding street and vert.
Which one? I've heard that they are good bikes.
oh, sorry to double post but its a shorty.
FuzzyRyder

either of the premiums would be solid.

Fuzzy knows. If you can drop the extra loot and are tall or still growing go with the Duo.
