After a couple of years away I'm planning on hitting the road hard again this year, and I'm going to dump the old Sub1 fork on my Cannondale R900. It is a 1 1/4 steerer tube, so I need to use an adapter.

I'd like some advice as to the best fork, and setup here. I've seen a couple of different adapters to use a 1 1/8 headset, but is one better than the other? I saw a Cannondale adapter and a generic adapter listed on various websites, does it really make a difference?

Also, I'm looking for a good budget-minded carbon fork for this frame. I'm a pretty big guy, and want something strong an comfy. I've looked at the Kestrel and Profile forks, any recommendations? How are the Performance house brand forks?

Thanks for any and all feedback, I appreciate it.

What you need is the Chris King Devolution headset. It's specifically designed to put a 1 1/8" fork in a 1 1/4" headtube, and it's a King so you know it will work perfectly.

I'm not sure this is a cost effective upgrade. King headset is around $125 installed and the 11/8 fork is about $250 for a brand name. Is the existing fork pretty bad?

I'm looking for something a bit more comfortable, as the Sub1 transmits every bump and crack. Secondarily, on a good day I'm 235lbs, and I've nevery felt very confident at speed on this fork. It seems awfully "whippy" at times, especially while braking. Best way I can describe it is that I'm waiting for the fork to do a tuck and roll underneath me.

Maybe a carbon fork isn't the answer? I know losing 35lbs would help, hopefully the miles help make that happen this year.

Thanks for the input.
