A few weeks ago at a garage sale I got 2 bikes for $20, the first was a Schwinn Sprint turned into a hybrid, after having the rear wheel trued up, it's in great shape, and ready to sell. The other one was this:

According to the guy I got it from, he put it together in the early 70's with parts from a few bikes. (Liscense plate says '73) The frame says Vista on it, but I can't read any of the other decals that might tell me a model. The derailer and stem shifter say Schwinn, and I don't see any markings on other parts.
The bike is "rideable" but needs the tires, brake pads, derailer cable, and seat replaced. I have questions about a few of the things.
My local hardware store has some tires that will fit for $7 each. These sound like something I can trust? The packaging says something like Via Cycle, but the tires themselves say Kenda.
When trying to see if the bike would shift, the end of the cable snapped off, and I don't really remember what it looked like. Looking at a cable in the store, I'm not sure if either end was what was on it. Were there any other styles around in the early 70's?
Any idea what I should do with this thing? I already have a few bikes, so I don't think I'd use it too much. I don't really see getting much money for it either, maybe enough to cover the cost of what's needed to fix it up. It does seem like it would ride pretty nice with those few things repalced, so it seems like it would be a waste to just throw it away...
