this isn't a FS post; i'm just consulting with you mtn bike ppl for some guidance, if y'all would be so kind.

i'm selling my mtn bike to fund my 'cross project, and i was gonna ebay it. i have no idea what such things are worth, used. here's the facts:

it's a 2003 specialized rockhopper, the regular $530 msrp one, front suspension, blah blah blah.

it's in great mechanical condition, but has some scratches and what not from the trail and the basement. only one scratch is truly ugly.

where do you guys think i should start the bidding at? what do you think i can realistically expect to get for it? i did a search on ebay for similar bikes, but that didn't yield a lot of info, as some ppl were apparently asking too much and getting no bids, etc.

any advice would be 100% appreciated.

The 2004 now has a MSRP of $440. Factor in $50 shipping, and the most I'd pay would be around $250. But that's me, and there's a lot of crazier people out there....

The better question is, how much are you prepared to let it go for? If you're really worried about not getting enough, set this as your reserve and start the bidding at nothing. The more people who are encouraged to place any bids at all, the more interest you'll generate in your bike.

haha, i'd be thrilled to get $250. $200 would do it for me, i think. i'm just wondering if anyone will bid at all if i start bidding that high. as a guy who gets junked up on ebay myself, i tend to fall in love with the low-priced good deels, initially for the value. then, i get stuck on some of the other benefits of the item. before i know it, i'm bid-warring on something that's no longer a stellar deal as the auction closes.

but yeah, i could go with a low-reserve and start at $1. that is a thought.

thanks for the imput, booyah. i just may go that route.

any other advice?

I would start a little higher...like around 50-75. I buy and sell a good bit on e bay and I tend to shy away from the auctions that start at $1. It just seems that the seller has a motive to starting that low and it worries me a bit. Also if you start at 50-75 it doesn't take as long to get up to your reserve, but its still low enough to generate some interest from people thinking a good deal is to be had.

That's my opinion

$225. Specialized has a really good resale value.

Try www.craigslist.com .It is free and it is local ads. So no shipping mess. You can meet the buyeer somewhere or have them come to yor home. I use it pretty good luck. Oh did I mention it is FREE.
