Fifty Plus (50+) - I don't need no clipless pedals.....

....to tip over at a stop sign, I can fall quite well with cheap old
platform pedals. I took the Volae out for a little spin last night
after work. It was just before sunset and very peaceful in the
neighborhood. About four miles into a five miler I caught up to
a couple in their mid 20's at a crossroad and once I came to a
stop I managed quite well to just tip over. They probably would
have been concerned about my well being if I wasn't laughing so
hard. We spoke for a couple minutes and went our seperate ways,
today they're probably still laughing.

After work today I'll take another little spin and see how things go.
As promised, here's a couple pics of the Volae with the fenders, rack,
and mirror. I may still need to swap to a longer stem to get the handle
bar to a position of max comfort but the seat and handle bar adjustments
are somethings that I want to address gradually. I'm running 1 1/4"
high pressure tires front and rear, an IRC Metro on the front and a
Kenda Kwest on the back. They're quite nice on the street and I'll find out how
they work on the unpaved sections of the old Towpath along the canal.
The crushed stone is quite well compacted and is no problem for my
1 1/2" tires on the Sun EZ Sport.

The rear trunk is for tubes and tools, cell phone, wallet etc. I just pop it on
whichever bike I happen to use each day. Very convenient.

The pump fits nicely behind the seat and I attached it with a couple of velcro
straps. I carry it the same way on my EZ Sport.

It'll take a little getting used to but I'm looking foreward to a lot of
pleasurable miles on this little beast. Hopefully I won't be laying down
in the road at stop signs any more.

It's very nice, (I could get interested in building one) but should you be out after dark while on a learner's permit?

That green stuff looks like Viola odorata, or sweet violet. I have some under a Japanese maple tree; it flowers profusely in the spring and is, indeed, odoriferous in a heady way.

It's a Silver Maple!!

The low lying stuff is some kind of White Violet or something. It thrives
in the shade of the Maple and it was free from a neighbor who calls it
"Johnny Jump-ups" or something like that. When I get home I can ask
my wife, she'll know.

Perhaps climbing on...but when falling off one doesn't have nearly so far to go as on a DF ;)

Good news. I did a 18 miles of road and MUP yesterday without as
much as a wobble. Man, this thing goes like the wind!!! My speed
is comparable to when I ride the aluminum Schwinn 354, and I was
just taking it easy.

I don't guess I'll be tipping over at stop signs anymore. :)
