I'm going to have this Merckx repainted at the factory in the coming month. I've always wanted a Molteni Orange bike but I also like the way it looks in yellow and the fact that I've never seen another one like mine. I'm just looking to see what others would do. I know it's all up to me, but curiosity always gets the best of me (maybe that's the reason for having over 20 bikes). Remember that it's going to be done at the Merckx factory,so what ever I decide, it will be done right. This is how I got the bike. It has a mixture of Nuovo Record, Super Record, Dura ace, and a trippy Stronglight crankset. I'm going to go either all Nuovo Record or Super Record depending if I can get a Super Record RD for cheap, since I have a couple of complete Nuovo Record groupos. Also, the RD is a Nuovo Record but it only has "Patent" on it and not a year. I'm guessing it's an earlier one. So; Would you have it painted to be a Molteni replica or repaint it the original color?

I like the yellow, too. I would see about painting the head tube white, though. I *think* that would look very nice.

For the price of the repaint and decals you are looking at a lot of money.

Leave it original and get the super record parts to do the build.

Why repaint it? It looks great, at least on my computer screen.

Don't repaint it. It looks perfect just the way it is.

It could use a good deep cleaning, polishing and sorting.

I'd clean it up, maybe touch up the paint chips and as stated above
sink the money I'd save into components.

Do not respray that frame, leave it as is. Itīs much nicer with the original colour and decals, besides that simple yellow colour should be easy to touch up. What you should do instead is to clean the frame properly, perhaps use a mild rubbing compound and then vax her with several layers. And build her up with that complete Nuovo Record gruppo that you have! Itīll look great.

The pics that are posted are of when I first got it. It's been given a good cleaning and polishing and it does look good, BUT.....the only reason I'm going to have it repainted is because I am in Belgium and it seems it would be my only opportunity to have it repainted by the Factory while I'm here(moving back to the states soon) and because the price is way below what one normally pays in the States for a Repaint and decals. Also, you guys really can't see it in the pics I posted buton some parts the paint looks as if it was smeared. One can see it on the pic of the headtube/badge. Here is another pic where it's more noticeable. And, I won't have to deal with the shipping of the frame set since I'm here. You guys now see reasoning??? :D

I'm partial to orange myself. Although the yellow is pretty sexy too. Either way, you can't go wrong really.

Beautiful!

I vote for yellow. While you might run into another Molteni orange back in the States, I'm pretty certain you'll never run into another yellow one.

I had never seen that colour before about 3 days ago.

I saw a fellow out riding a bike that could have been a twin to that one, it was just stunning. That Yellow just pops out and demands you look at it.

It is beautiful.

Keep the yellow.

It is your money to spend as you want, and if you have always wanted Molteni Orange, then get it. I know that if I really want something and settle for a bit less, it always kind of bothers me.

I voted don't get it painted, but if you do, get orange, you already have a yellow bike.

Who did this yellow paint job? I can see why it bothers you. Guess I'm picky like you?
