Southern California - Thesis defense and celebration fast approaching!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
As many of you know, I'm finishing up grad school. My thesis defense is on Sept 8 at 2 PM, and I'm hosting a quick celebration on Sept 9 (6:30 PM to ???). My BikeForums friends are, of course, invited. If you want info about either event (most likely the celebration... though if you really want to hear my thesis defense, feel free to come for that, too) just send me a PM and I'll give you the details.

Every time a doctoral student says they are going to "defend their thesis" I picture gladiators fighting to the death. Good luck!
More specifically?
Total synthesis and stereochemical assignment of uncialamycin
Biological evaluation of uncialamycin
Total synthesis of aspidophytine
Happy now? :p

Great job!!! I know that you will successfully defend your written words, but you might want to take in a katana just in case any of the people decide to get a bit uppity...

It is fantastic!
Got some pics back from a friend. I'll pick out a few to share later, but for now, here's the cake. :)
That's great.
My congrats for your accomplishment!
Jason, I have a chemistry problem that needs solving.....
How would I home brew this:

It's just a simple amide coupling. Wikipedia has references for you.

Congrads Jason. Do you have a post-doc position lined up yet?
I was kidding, but I do have a real problem.
Actually I have a aerosol catalist accelerator causing a green stain in
a white granite.
( granite installers are using this to a accelerate the hardening of the glue/epoxy)
the green shows up very light after a few minutes, the darkens to an emerald like color
after a few days. a "poultice" changes it brown/rust color.
We are thinking it may have something to do with copper trace elements in the stone.
We can't seem to figure out how to reverse the reaction.
The company won't give us the chemical makeup of the compound, as its " propriatary ".
I think were screwed....may have to replace the kitchen counters...
Better late than never... here's some more pics.
1. The extent to which my sister's boyfriend understood my talk.
2. Me afterward.
3. The family. Left to right: Dr. Chen, Miss Chen, Mrs. Chen, Dr. Chen, Dr. Chen, Dr. Chen, Dr. Chen
4. Pic with my prof.
5. Pic with colleagues in the same lab bay. (Entire lab is about 6x that size.)
6. Cake cutting.
7. View from my office window.
Hello Jason,
Very well done!
Now you can focus more on cycling. ;) Hope to see you on the road soon.
