I used almost all of the parts that came with the bike except for the seatpost and Wal-Mart saddle and rear rack. When I had the bike apart I added bosses for water bottles, rear rack, and rear brake cable bosses. It also got new cables and brake pads.
I'm surprised at how comfortable and smooth the bike is. It's a great ride for a total of a few hundred bucks.

It turned out great!
Where did you get your decals done? I could use something similar, with an improvised Ironman top tube decal.

Man, that looks cool.
How did you add the bosses?
And yes the end result does look nice. Good job!

Super sweet!! Love the blue! Looks like the old 60's Falcon color. The brown striping, wrap, and saddle set the color off perfectly. Nice job!,,,,BD

Wait a second, is that a Cyclone long cage? Never seen one before. Cool!,,,,BD

Very nice, not flashy but oh so classy.
txvintage, the decals were from www.edecals.com
Rammer, I silver brazed them on using an oxyacetalene torch. It was not any more difficult than soldering copper pipes. I got most of my tips in the framebuilders forum.
Bikedued, somewhere along the line someone put a GT long cage onto the Cyclone RD. Good eye!
I have to give all the credit for the aesthetics of the bike to my wife. She picked the color, painted the lugs, and did the bar tape. Thanks dear!

Thanks for the link. I had thought of using a racing decal company that makes driver's names for over the door.
Just one last question......did you clear coat over them or just go Au Natural?

The SunTour Cyclone rear derailleur (both the original version and the MKII), came in short, medium and long cage versions.

Are you going to re-install that quickstand? If not, what do you want for it? :-)

Are you referring to the "Flick stand" on the down tube of the sidestand down on the chainstays? Not sure what I'm going to do with either yet...
It looked sexy before...and it looks even sexier now!

Oh, yeah, flick stand.... "Quick Stand" was Raleigh's name for it... That's the one. The one on the down tube. Well, you got one interested party if you decide to unload it. :-) I miss mine from my Raleigh (useful when you have loaded panniers).

Thank you Mr. Bikedued! I am the wife who bought said bike for $40 and since he insisted on powder coating the frame, I voted for sky blue. I also thought the brown would look very nice and masculine. I also did the pin striping that took forever, and the tape wrap that took forever, and the cord whip that took forever. I guess he didn't really do anything but take it apart and put it back together. ;) I only wish it was my size because it really turned out quite nice and I am very jealous. At least I can say I played a small part in it all. Thanks for all the nice compliments.

Wow, that turned out great!

I'd like to see how you routed that rear brake cable.

Very classy!
Now, explain the gearing on those chain rings. That's some difference, double, right?

I added two cable stops on the top tube and ran it along the side.

The crank has 52-34 chainrings. When I had it apart I checked and it is a 110mm BC crank. Originally it was 52-40. The front derailleur handles it amazingly well.
