Bicycle Mechanics - Road Pumps ???

Hi,

Having suffered an exploding rear wheel, several punctures and my trusty Specialized Air Force pump giving up on me all in the space of a week :mad: I'm looking at treating myself to a new pump. The Top Peak Road Morph looks to be just what I want as I already have a JoeBlow track pump and am quite happy with it but it's just too big to carry with me :D

Anyone got any views on the Road Morph before I buy ??

Yup, my LBS said it was the best thing going short of a frame pump, and they were right. Just watch where you put your fingers when you use it. It'll take a bite if you're not careful.

Good enough for me, I've just ordered one from Wiggle, picking it up Monday as they are local to where I live, just hope the p*nct*re fairy doesn't visit me too many times in the interim :)

I believe you'll be very happy with the Road Morph pump.
I've used one for the last couple of years. Gets the job done in good time.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have always used Blackburn, Silca, or Zefal full frame pumps, but the Road Morph concept looks intriguing.

Great pump. It's the only pump which which I'm able to pump tires reliably on a tour, i.e. at full pressure and without fear of breaking a valve. It's almost as good as a floor pump.

I have two issues with it:

1. The hose clamp is convertible from Presta to Schraeder, but it's a bit of a hassle when my commuter uses one of each, my tourer uses Presta and the trailercycle and child trailer use Schraeder. Reversing the little rubber grommet on the road on a cold wet day with 2 children onlookers isn't my idea of fun.

2. The valve was very good for 2 years, but busted apart when I had to use the pump at -20 C.

I solved both problems by getting a Topeak replacement hose designed for their floor pumps. That hose has a sturdier valve and ready outlets for Presta and Schraeder.

I prefer CO2. BB-gun CO2 cartridges are 1/4 the cost of LBS reloads. But I have no idea how CO2 holds up in extreme cold.

Yeah, I love my Road Morph pump. Very easy get air in your tire. The new ones have a gauge on it, I'll be picking up a new one up soon.

Thanks for all the replies, at least I know I haven't bought a lemon..

Picked it up today & the only gripe I've got is that the handle is a right sod to swing up into the pumping position, very tight, but I suppose that will free up with use.

Like the idea of swapping the hose for the track pump one as my JoeBlow valve looks pretty indestuctable, in fact I may just swap them over :)
