My girlfriend took her bike into an LBS in seattle (recycled cycles) a few months ago to get her bottom bracket replaced. Just today she asked me to check out the clicking sound in her drivetrain and we realized that her fixed cup was loose. The flange on the outside of the cup was sticking out by about 1mm.
Clearly we have to tighten it, but the other thing that came out was that they sold her a shimano bottom bracket. She has a Campy victory crank (from the mid nineties). After telling her that she didn't need to worry about campy taper, they told her that it was a bottom bracket made by shimano with campy taper.

I'm under the impression that shimano has never made campy taper bottom brackets. Internet searches seem to agree. What do you folks think? Did shimano make campy compatible bottom brackets?

That's a so-so issue, and experiences from mix'n match experiments vary. I know I've gotten away with it once at least, but although the bb spindle was the same length I ended upp flipping it over to get the chain line right. There's a small difference in the taper that makes the cranks end up in a slightly different position.

The answer to your question is no, Shimano doesn't make ISO square taper bottom brackets so your LBS mechanic either lied or was mis-informed.

They were also remiss in that they didn't install the bb to the proper torque or it wouldn't have loosened. So you seem to be 0 for 2 with this dealer.

That said, as dabac noted, ISO and JIS tapers don't vary a lot from each other and often mix-and-match does work.
