Northeast - Massachusetts Nashua River Rail Trail

I've heard about the Nashua River Rail Trail before so I figured I'd check it out on Labor Day. The trail starts in Ayer, MA. and goes into Nashua, NH., and is very flat, and does have some good views. I've been job interviewing in the Shirley area so I thought why not ride it. I could not believe how many riders were on the trail, it was just great to see such a wide range of people using the trail. You had your walkers and rollerbladers, but over 90% where on bikes. It was very enjoyable and I know I'll go ride it in the near future, has anyone else done this trail ?

I have not but it is withing striking distance of my home. How far can one ride on it? What direction do you travel? How was the pavement's surface?

I rode the trail starting in Ayer to it's end in Nashua NH., I think it was about 22 miles out and back. The trail was in great shape only saw maybe 10 frost heaves that were painted so you could see them. I'm not a trails guy, but like I said it was a fun and something different than my normal road riding.

Just rode this Wednesday evening with a friend. It's just shy of 24miles round trip end to end. Flattest 12 miles you can find anywhere around here. There weren't too many people on the trail in the evening. I agree it is very nice. I've taken my kids there several times. From Ayer to the ice cream shop it's 8miles, and a 16 mile round trip is about as much as they want to do. There are very few road crossings and nice parking lots at either end. There are public bathrooms at the Ayer end, but they were locked when we were there at 6:30PM this week.
