I called Performance this afternoon after not hearing from them this morning to see if my Boardwalk had arrived. I'd been waiting a almost a week since it had shipped . After checking , the lady said yes it was there !! I drove an hour through Atlanta traffic to the north side , to pick it up . When I got there , I found out it was still in the box , but the bike mechanic said he would "build" it for me and it wouldn't take long . It took about 20 minutes and he said it was ready. I was like a kid in a candy store in that place. They had two Boardwalks for sale in the racks for $199 . I showed my ID and took her out to the parking lot for a test run. Sweeeeet !! I don't mind the single speed , but do wish I had an option on the handlebars . It's OK the way it is , but if it had a regular type stem , it would put my hands a little farther out and would really be nice. When I got her home , I changed out the seat for a Schwinn pillow top comfort seat and changed the grips out for a set Forte' contour grips , fastened a bottle of water on the rear rack with a bungee cord and took off on her maiden voyage toward town . I went the town library and showed my wife and her co-worker , cooled off a few minutes , then took a long way back home. About 7-8 miles . I was surprised how well it handles . With the single speed , I can get a better workout than with my Cross bike in fewer miles . She a solid little performer. Thanks to all you here for your help in my choosing the Boardwalk. One other thing , I didn't like, was mine has scratches on the front stem and on the frame. the other two they had in the racks also had scratches . Is this normal ? When I bought my Schwinn comfort bike(new) , it had a few scratches. kirby

Having some scratches on a new bike is not a ideal situation, but with shipping parcels the way it is now I am not suprised in the least. Here is my Web page covering what to do about it providing you decide not to take it back-and I think that is the last thing in the world you wish to do.

I wish you as many or more happy years with your bike as I have with my own Boardwalk. I never regretted my decision even if I actually did not test ride the bike beforehand.

Thanks, Yep I'm sure it'll get more scratches in the years to come , but you kinda want to put them on yourself. LOL. Today ; in addition to the seat and grip change ; I added a Sigma BC 906 bike computer to it and an under saddle bag . I rode 10+ miles on her this morning , and another 3 this evening setting up the computer and checking it out . Also took a couple of pictures . I know it looks like a lot of others out there , but this one is mine. I had a black plastic basket I tried to attach to the rear rack , but it flexed too much . I need to find a milk crate. kirby

How are those grips, kirby999? I've seen them branded by different comanies; they're cheap and look a comfortable shape. Supposedly triple-density rubber, aren't they? How soft are they?

I like the grips a lot. Nice and grippy feeling (soft but firm) . I'd ordered 3 sets of them from Performance when they had them on sale for $7.99 the best I remember . I'm going to buy up a couple more sets when they go on sale again . They help absorb some the vibrations , and give my palms a place to rest . they are open ended with end plugs , so you can add bar ends if you like. kirby
