Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - What are some short-reach bullhorn bars?

I have pretty short arms so most bullhorn bars stretch me out. I have chop and flops that I like, but they are getting old and nasty.

I used to have soma urban pursuit bars, but those were super long. Even chopping them down wouldn't be quite good, i think.

How are those Nitto Rb018 bars? They look pretty sweet and have a 148mm reach (I think this is what I read). Any other shorter bullhorn bars out there? Maybe profile design ones?

Yeah, like SilentEdge said, How long is your stem? I've seen some longer bullhorns, but most look just fine if you have the right length neck. I just picked up an Easton EA50 in 80mm length and I know the EA30 comes in 75mm... Try that out, or one similarly shorty!

bullhorn bars are as long as you want them to be. If you can't cut the ones you have down to a proper size, then what makes you think there are bars out there that will fit better?

It sounds like you ride with your hands on the upward curve of the bullhorn bars, and that the stem might not be the problem. Many bullhorn bars have a good reach, which, if you're riding on the upward sweep, causes you to reach beyond your comfortable posture. If this is the case, then flop and chop another bar that would give you a closer upward sweep. Or get a shorter stem.

You're right, I do like to ride on the upward sweep, since that's where I run my TT brake levers. Is that not normal?

Perhaps I'll stick with chop and flops. My stem is already a 70mm nitto, its just that I have a long TT. Cross levers feel nice to me, but its yet another thing to buy!

syntace stratos, the ones with a little drop are great! The rearward sweep makes the horns way more comfortable. chucksbikes.com usually has some for cheep too.

the tranz-x bullhorns are a cheap alternative to the Nittos. I like them.

yea i was about to recommend the syntace stratos then as well since it has a backwards sweep. that, coupled with properly-short stem should give you what you're looking for. if not, you've got the wrong sized frame.

Bullhorns for the stoker on a tandem are short; look for those.

But a shorter stem is really what you need.

exactly why i chose them. they came with some old crappy bar tape and i took those off and left behind some sticky stuff. i just left it alone because it keeps up with the theme of 'this bike is ****ty. don't steal it' :roflmao2:
