A short and sweet BF ride up the South Gate of Mount Diablo to the summit from the oh so trendy Blackhawk Plaza.

No restrictions on what to ride but I encourage you to be creative on your choice of chosen steed. There will be a special prize(s) for the best picture of a Coyote or Tarantula posted on your ride report on this site. This will be a semi no drop ride. It will be no drop to the base of the climb (start of the Diablo Challenge) then its every person for themselves up to the junction where we will let everyone get back together before tackling the final push to the summit where we will regroup and take in the view. It should not be possible to get lost.
For the down hill we will all ride at our own pace and meet at the bottom by the school before we ride as a group back to Starbucks.

here is a route suggested by Google from the Bart

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=dublin+CA+Bart&daddr=4000+Blackhawk+Plaza+Circle,CA&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&dirflg=w&sll=37.909534,-121.839752&sspn=0.511412,0.878906&ie=UTF8&ll=37.792965,-121.926956&spn=0.256111,0.439453&z=11

If you have time afterwards check out the amazing car show in Danville

This sounds like the perfect opportunity for the Taxi bike...I should have done Tam by then...depends on the knees, I might get lazy though.
Pete

Why don't you two come over on the Tandem and do Tam with us? Sat

How did the Birdy do at Water Dog? What did you think of the trails?

Ugh, not ideal, Russian Ridge was a better fit for it. It did its best getting me to and from it.

We tried to follow this "easy route (http://www.passiontrailbikes.com/pages/ride-easyride)" I found (although did accidentally detour at one point into some more advanced singletrack).

The beginning fireroad was nice and easy (could even do that on a road bike), but it rapidly transformed after that.

The terrain was way too uneven, lots of big rocks and/or crevices, or else it was too loose. I ended up walking a lot of the way.

Wait... MyLilPony points out I don't know how to read a calendar and the reunion is a different day.
So we should be able to come.

I am definitely in!! I am coming from San Jose, should I drive? or is there a better way to get there? (public transportation). I would ride but 50 miles is a bit too long for a warmup i think.

I'd be interested but the first BART doesn't hit Dublin until 9:10, so I guess it's a no go.

I think I have chosen a bad date for my original planned meeting place in Danville. There is a big car show on in Danville that day.

http://www.danville-delegance.org/

Meet in Blackhawk instead. Id like to set off early so I can get back to see the show (its my favourite car show in the Bay Area).

will try to figure out the logistics. My wife wants to use this as training for the Diablo challenge so we plan to regroup at the school (challenge start) then just before the top (where the challenge finishes). This is so we can get an idea of the climb times.

Are you sure the Challenge finishes before the top? I thought the north ramp was included (the one we usually ride on the descent).

I Moved the start time to allow Bart riders. I think its only about 8 miles from the Bart to our meeting place.

I think he's talking about the post ride festivities. The Challenge goes up the "come down" side, the finish line is in the Upper Parking Lot, and then riders come down the "go up" side back to the Lower Parking Lot where the Jamba mobile is.

Btw, the google route goes a bit too far... to reduce the chances of getting lost, lose the last right turn in the directions list...

And, based on rumbutter's route description, you can download the course to upload to a garmin over here (http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ca/danville/808558153629).

I have picked up a nasty upper respiratory infection so I cannot ride tomorrow  My wife will still be riding unless she gets the same bug. If I feel better I will try to ride out on my motorcycle to offer support. So sorry for the late notice on this one. I rested up for two days hoping things would get better but I am getting worse.

Bummer about the chest cold! You have to take care of those or they can turn into something real nasty.

I am still in. I will see whoever at 10:00 AM Sunday

Sorry about the illness. I'm recovering from some nastiness myself.

We had hoped to be in for this, but need to be close to home tomorrow, so we'll be doing a local ride instead. The Devil entices and must wait yet another week.

Enjoy, you hardcores!

Thanks for the ride guys. I Had a fun time. Too bad we didn't get any wildlife pics but with the heat, I'm sure the animals were smartly hiding in their dens and burrows watching all the foolish humans climbing that hill in the heat .

Great job! So... who did break the hour? There's a t-shirt to win next week.

I climbed the mountain two weeks ago, the road work was almost complete except for the section up Rock City to the Junction. Is it all done now?

Thanks for turning up, it was an enjoyable ride although at times I was over heated. Hopefully next week for the challenge it won't be as hot. Will have to arrange another Mt Diablo ride when it is a bit cooler and when there are no other events on.

Donald says he missed it by 2 minutes. I'm sure he could break it pretty easily when it's not so hot and he can crank it to 11!
