Training & Nutrition - does cycling lower testosterone levels?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I recently read another post that said that training/racing/high-intensity lowers testosterone levels.
Is this true? If true, what are the side-effects of lower testosterone levels?
In my case, yes. Less muscle building, less libido. More fat.

Yeah, dude, you're gonna turn into a woman if you ride your bike.
The first sign is that you will start shaving your legs. It's all downhill from there.

I recently read another post that said that training/racing/high-intensity lowers testosterone levels.Dozens of hormones ebb and flow with periods or work rest, youth and old age.
Any periods of stress can reduce healthy levels of hormones. Old age naturally lowers certain hormones. Supplementing hormones is safe in some situations and can be beneficial.
However, there are consequences to trying to "jack up" hormone levels artificially. Only you, your doctor and a series of blood tests can determine whether your "benefits" would out weigh any risks.
AS others have mentioned, this all sounds pretty gay, start dress shopping.......

You may be right. It just may be that I have smaller muscles since my testosterone dropped to 175 (I'm 44). Androgel brings the level up to a max of 600 and muscles are bigger. But, I have issues with Androgel and cannot use it in summer/hot weather.
I only rode (broken arm right now) 30 miles every other day. So my training is not "ultimate", at about 1/2 what I did when I was 33.
Any way you slice it, I eat very carefully, ride and work out, but have little strength and too much fat.

Yes, cycling can lower all kind of hormonal levels, and indeed may make you fatter. Especially when you aren't eating enough protein and don't lift weights.
On the humorous side: watching women will help to raise T-levels
