Folding Bikes - Great Folding Bike Destinations

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm looking for destinations and adventures unique to folding bikes. I'm the creator of a Folding Bike Destination blog and I go to at least one new destination somewhere in the world every month. I'm not making money off it, It's just something I enjoy doing. I would like to open my blog up to the folding bike public. If you have a folding bike destination or or adventure that you would like to share, I would love to hear from you! You can see the blog at [www.foldingbikedestinations.blogspot.com] If you have something you would like to add please email me at foldingbikedestinations@yahoo.com Whether you take your folding bike on airplanes, cruiseships, motorhomes or just have an amazing commute, I would like to hear about it. The requirements for a post are simple. There needs to something about it unique to folding bikes. not just a cool ride that you could have taken any bike on. pictures are welcome! Also if you have a destination you would like to see covered, send me an email and I will see what I can do. Thanks for taking the time to read this! I hope to hear from you.
Happy Biking

Thanks for the Replies, Good suggestions, but I should have told you there is one limitation as to where I can go. It has to be near an airport. That’s what I do; I hop on a plane with a small carry-on and check the bike. So, for me to cover a destination, it has to be within riding distance from an airport. I would love to cover Crater Lake but unfortunately it wouldn’t be feasible for me. San Juan on the other hand would definitely be feasible and I’ll add it to my list! If you would like to throw your folding bike in the motor home and head for Crater Lake (or any other destination), I would love to hear about it!
The site is really just to promote folding bikes and the things that can be done with them. So, whether you take your bike on cruises, airplanes, the back of your car, or just ride it to work, we’d love to hear about it.
If our have a story or just a question, feel free to email me at foldingbikedestinations@yahoo.com
Thanks Again,
-Ben

No, I’m a pilot. I can fly on any US air carrier for free as long as there is an open seat. The problem is that contrary to what most people believe, airline pilots don’t make the big bucks. I’ve flown as an airline pilot for five years and today I finally make about as much as a high school teacher. I’m happy to have a job though, with gas prices now there are a lot of pilots on the street. What I’m getting at is that for the last five years I’ve been able to go just about anywhere in the world but haven’t because I cant afford the transportation and lodging once I get there. My folding bike has changed that. Now I can visit places very inexpensively and that's why I started the bolg.
I know there aren’t a lot of pilots cruising around the world on folding bikes, but there are a lot of people that have some great adventures on folding bikes even if it is just a commute to work. There’s a reason why you’re riding a collapsible and not a “conventional” bike. If you would like to write about it, I’d love to read it and put it on the website.

Sure...great ideas. When I get my folding I will write about my experience riding my bike in nyc. But I'm weary about your comment about riding a bike in nyc traffic is not for beginner. I haven't ride a bike since I was a little kid and back then I never rode on the street. Only on the sidewalk. So we'll see. Any recommendation for riding a bike in the traffic for so call beginner in nyc?

I live near an airport, would you like me to take pictures of the thugs who try to knock me off my bike and mug me on my commute to work? :roflmao2:
Sorry, I'm just having a bit of fun with you. That's great that you and so many others enjoy your folding bikes so much. For me it's much more mundane. Like a family sedan, I ride it because that's how I get to work, not because I like it.

Chicago is a nice destination for a person with a Folder. Best time of year would be the summer months beginning in mid May and all the way into early October.
Lots to see and do...museums, beaches, 150+ bike stores, rails-to-trails, and best of all you can get a taste of multimode commuting with Chicago's excellent transit system.
Recommend staying in the suburbs (cheaper hotel/motel rates), and near a Metra train station. Take the train into the city, and ride the local subway, and buses with folders to get across town if needed, or just hoof it via bike along Chicago's many bike lanes.
Resturaunts, bars, diners, cafes...you name it.......

This is a brutal crowd!
"I live near an airport, would you like me to take pictures of the thugs who try to knock me off my bike and mug me on my commute to work?"
Yes, now that's some real excitement on a folding bike! I suppose it's all what you're use to. I have to drive a car to work everyday (to far to bike) I'd love to be able to ride a bike to work.
Vincent,
You'll have no problem in NY; it's in your blood. You may not bike in the traffic every day, but you walk, bus or taxi in it. There are a lot of people out there who consider a 4 way stop a busy intersection. Those are the people who the comment was directed towards. Have fun with the biking, you'll have to let me know how it goes!

Excellent suggestion Jose! Thank You! I've visited Chicago before but not on a bike. I had no idea what cold was until I went to Chicago in the winter. I'll definitely have to try it in the summer on a folder!
