Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Mercier Kilo TT vs. Pake + Soma fork

i have a 51cm Pake im building up right now but im having second thoughts after BD got more merciers.

Anyone? Hows the toe overlap between the 2?

If you have a Pake already why even bother with the Mercier? You're going to end up with exactly the bike you want, with the parts you like.

The Pake isnt put together yet. I just bought it because BD ran out of merciers and i got a pretty decent deal in it.

With the Mercier i can at least save some money because I doubt I'll be riding everyday.

Like everyone, I'm looking for the best bang for my buck but if the Mercier has a crazier toe overlap than the Pake then i'd probably stick with the Pake

Why so worried about toe overlap? Unless you are going to ride 2 mph all the time i don't see a problem.

My Kilo has plenty of it but it never affects me. I can't think think when I need turn that slow and at sharp of an angle, and in the rare times I do, natural instinct tells me to time my steering with the pedal rotation. I don't even think about it.

Track stands? I stand at every light I come across on my 30-40 mile rides I do during the week/weekend. If your wheel is turned to the right, the right foot is forward, etc.

Honestly I don't mean this in a condescending manner but spend more time on a bike with overlap and you'll see it's a minor issue at most.

I do have a larger frame than a 53 and it was noticable on my last bike but I don't stress it.

Yeah you're probably right. I wouldn't notice it much on long rides.

The only time I make tight turns are when I'm hanging around in front of my friends' house just messing around (ie. tricks and what not). This is my second bike and it's mainly for just messing around. I have another bike I use for long rides.

Did your new fork help the toe overlap much? It has a higher rake right?

Yeah that's pretty much what I'm doing.

Toe overlap is ok, just not to the point where I'll fall off if it hits while I'm "threading the needle". If its just rubbing barely, I wouldn't mind at all.

Going through traffic I go still fast enough that I do most of my turns by leaning, and that means going from one side of a lane, turning almost 90 degrees to go between stopped cars into the space between the two lanes over. My bike has got overlap and it's not usually an issue in traffic

If your feet aren't too big, get small toe clips. I'm riding a 51cm Pake, and toe overlap hasn't been issue so far (although I haven't got more than 40 miles on it yet, but you get the idea). And I've ridden through some high traffic downtown corridors to boot.
