Hi all

I've ordered one of these things and my supplier contacted me to let me know about a problem with the brake levers on the tops of the bars.. So I emailed another couple of suppliers to see if they'd heard of it and nobody had.

But a call to Spesh revealed the following:

Apparently because the bike is next year's spec, they've issued top levers (not the STIs) that comply with the new EN standard rather than the BS standard. They've made an error with the sizing - they respecced the bars but didn't change the levers (or the other way round, they weren't clear on that). The bars are oversized at the stem face plate, but there isn't enough oversized section to fit the levers to as well - and the bars taper towards the drops to a standard size.

They're apparently shipping shims out to dealers - the secondary levers aren't fitted at the factory (apparently they can't legally, so the dealers fit them before shipping?). There's also warning stickers for the dealers to attach to the secondary levers to advise that the braking with them isn't as powerful as with the STIs.

However, the good news is that the fork judder from last year's model has been sorted out by changing the canti brakes for linear pulls. :)

They've also confirmed that even though the levers have to be shimmed to make them fit the bar, they're safe.

Just thought this would be useful info for anyone considering buying one.. Mine is due to arrive tomorrow so if anything interesting happens, I'll let you know...

I have an 09 Sport (have had it for three weeks), and haven't had any issues. It's been a great bike

Strange... Are you in the UK? Wonder if it's a problem just here? Funny enough I've got an email confirming it from Specialized UK as well...

I'm in the US, so maybe it's a UK only issue?

I took those off and put on some tribars.
