I have been getting a popping noise of the front end of my Trek 8000. Checked spoke tension, seems okay, did this by feel, as I do not have a tension meter.
Lubricated all the areas where spokes cross.
Repacked wheel bearings and headset and made sure all that is adjusted well.
Noise is still there.
Took the front wheel off and placed the area with the "click" on the garage floor. By placing my weight on the wheel, I can reacreate the click.
Squeezed the tire in that area, and I can reacreate the click. Sounds like the bead is making a noise. The tire appears to be fully seated, has hundreds of miles on it, does not run out of true, bump, etc. that I can tell.
Has anyone here ever had this situation before? Any ideas of what to look at? Tear/damage to tire bead? Damage to hook on rim?
