Long Distance Cycling - Bike Recommendations for long trip.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm looking to travel on a bike across some states and then who knows where. I'm just curious as to what type of bike would best suit this kind of travel. Feel free to respond with advice to anything about biking!!!!
Thanks

if you're doing more of a loaded tour (as opposed to a "credit card tour," where you stay in hotels each night), the Touring forum might have more good info.

the LD forum is mostly about big day or multi-day rides, but they are for the most part continuos rides, not tours per se.

but to answer your question... a touring bike is what you should be looking for if you're going to be carrying lots of gear. they have large wheelbases, and lots of braze-ons for racks and whatnot.

something like the Surly Long Haul Trucker might be up your alley. i'm getting a pacer in the next few days myself (for LD rides w/ less gear).

that sounds amazing! So how long does it take to cycle across America? How much are you going to do in a day?
