Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - N+1!

Guess what I'm getting Saturday, or maybe even tomorrow! I'm picking up something with 2 wheels, pedals and is a total departure from anything I've ever ridden before. Kudos to the first right guess, and of course, pics will be up as soon as I get it and get the pics.

Given your knees and luck this year, I would say, make sure you add a good set of binders.... What would be cool is one of those with disc brakes. Watch all the roadie poseurs go :wtf:?

How ironic, rode last night with a buddy who just picked up a Surly Steamroller. It was amusing to watch him on the downhills as I coasted :).

I think you'll enjoy it. I personally want a SS, but that's going to wait - the new Salsa Fargo is the object of my obsessions.

Tom, are you thinking fixie or SS? I've got a flip-flop hub on my Mark V but I've only tried fixed a few times and wasn't really sold on the idea. I'm running 48x19, (checks the Sheldon Brown gear inch calculator) with my other equipment it works out to... 66.6 gear inches. Oooh! I have the gear inches of the beast!

OK, now that I've got that out of my system... I've got a '91 PDG Series-5 converted to fixed gear, and it is a lot of fun to ride. 39/15 gearing, and I rebuilt the rear wheel around an IRO high-flange fix/fix hub. I ride it on the street, so I left both the brakes on it. I'd ride it more often, but most of my routes are really hilly and I'm just not ready for that; although I'm considering a lower geared fixie conversion MTB as a winter commuter for when it snows.

Actually, I honestly think the road bike is on hold. With the Fargo and the LHT I could do just about everything I want to do very well, and satisfy my need for a 29er MTB at the same time. The only reason I want a roadie is for speed, and I figure I'll give it another year of riding steel touring bikes, then buy some lightweight wonder and... watch out! :)
