Fifty Plus (50+) - Death of a Pilot... long live the Madone

Here's what happens when you turn in a frame for credit/crash replacement:

It hurt my heart to see this... but it had to be done.

I haven't taped the bar yet... considering playing with control positions a bit first, then tape. It's new bike tweaking time.

What to do with the Superflash? The mount doesn't fit the new Madone's seat post, so I have to clip it to the bag and it angles towards the ground. Not optimal alignment for best visibility.

I'm not sure if their shape will allow it, but you might try mounting the Superflash about half way down on one of the seat stays. I have two Superflashes, one on the seat post and one on the left seat stay.

That's true... although I prefer the centered location of the seat post, the seat stay would work. I'll hafta meditate on that. May have to get 2 of them, one for each stay.

I don't have the exact part #s but you might want to investigate some of the adaptor mounts that Topeak makes. Some of them attach to the seat rails to provide mounting surfaces for water bottles, bags and other stuff. You might be able to create a nice looking bracket this way.

I was thinking of something like this.............unfortunately, this specific one seems to clamp to the post. I'm sure I've seen this or something just like it that clamps to the rear of the saddle rails.

Edit: The Topeak site under the heading of "extras" in the product listing shows many many different kinds of fixers, each with its own part #. Many of them are quiet interesting and could be of great interest. You might want to take a look at the fixer (F33) for heavy spring saddles to see if it could be adapted to your saddle rails.

Apparently Trek requires the BB with s/n returned and the old frame destroyed in order to get the credit for trade or crash replacement.

Yeah.. I see. The F33 would conflict with my existing seat bag mount (which mounts to the seat rails). The F55 would likely work if the mount could be adapted for the SF.

So what happened to the Pilot...

It (well, with me on it) T-boned a car on 7/29. Broke the fork up inside the headtube. Compromised the frame.

Took 3 weeks to settle with the insurance company and then another 2 weeks or so for the new bike to come in.
