Fifty Plus (50+) - Morning's ride

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm attaching some pics from my morning's ride in upstate NY: across the Stony Creek Reservoir, through the town of Vischer Ferry, past a ghost bike, then a grange hall, an old tavern, and a Baptist church that could have fallen out of a Ralph Stanley song. Beautiful late summer day.

It's raining here so I'm glad to see someone was able to get out and enjoy some great riding weather. Nice pictures:thumb:

I tried to blow up the picture of the ghost bike to read the sign, but couldn't make it out. Do you remember what it says? Is it a story in itself?

These are roads I ride all the time - Apologist must be my neighbor. The ghost bike is for a man I worked with named David Ryan - we now call this 30 mile ride the Ryan loop. He was actually a brit here in the colonies - left a wife and kids. He was killed when two kids were drag racing down this windy road. The Ryan loop is one of my favorite rides. Here is a post from last fall - shows the same ghost bike + some more pics from the Ryan loop: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=363392&highlight=

Thanks for reminding me of the details about David Ryan. And for the link to the pics of the loop along the Mohawk.

No problem - I enjoy riding along the Mohawk and the hills of Glennville - are you riding any of the MHCC club rides this weekend - I know today is a washout but tomorrow should be great - I am planning on the Century.

Good luck on your ride today. It is beautiful. I'm going to try to get my youngest son out for a spin later. I'm really just back to the bike seriously this year, and I haven't gotten involved with the MHCC yet. Next year, maybe?
