I have an 06 Trek Pilot that has never shifter correctly on the front chain rings. I adjusted the front derailleur per the park tool guideline and this helped some, but it still took forever to go from the middle to the top ring and forget it if it was under any load at all. A few weeks ago I bought a new rear wheel and decided to get a new cassette as well this way I could use the junk wheel on the trainer. I put the new wheel and cassette on adjusted the rear derailleur and have had no issues since. I mean this shifts perfectly now. It turns out that the original cassette was SRAM and the new one is Shimano. This is the only thing that I changed so I know it is the rear cassette that fixed the front shifting problem. Sounds weird to me too. I don't know if this is simply a parts matching issue or tolerance stack up but I am glad it is working. I think SRAM stuff is pretty good so I am not bashing SRAM. Anyone else have experience with this?
