I just changed my seat due to ass hurting probs to a Fizik Aliente. I have been trying to adjust my position to get back into a comfy feeling yet I seem to be getting a pain in my upper hamstring just where the hamstring meets the butt muscle. I tried stretching and moving fore/aft , I found comfort when I slid forward on my seat so I moved the seat forward nut the problem is only in one hamstring!! Can anyone suggest a reason why the upper hamstring would hurt. Could it be cleat position? The cleats seem almost the same yet I notice one thigh is closer to the frame while riding.

TIA

I know the exact feeling you’re referring to. Try tilting your saddle nose slightly down. Nothing drastic, but it should allow for less pressure on the upper part of the hamstring during a down stroke. The Aliante is a great seat, but I could not get comfortable on it. I had the same pain in both of my upper hamstring area. I use a saddle that has a slightly wider portion where my sitting bones meet its surface, so my hamstrings don’t get that pressure. Also, practice some posterior pelvic tilts where you shift your weight back towards your tailbone occasionally. Most importantly though, I bet your saddle is too narrow around your sitting bones.

Cheers

Hi,
take a couple days off. Stretch twice a day, warm your legs first. Then stretch gently. It could just be you need to heal.
If it's not, a leather saddle might be help.
It wll conform to your anatomy, which may ease the problem.

I have the exact same problem on my left hamstring. I have a Fizik Saddle, which I love to death b/c I got it from sponsorship but even since the saddle change. I get the exact feeling in my hamspring like you do. Its in the top by the butt. I am going to try lowering my saddle to see if that works. Also I use to have a aspide arrowhead which I loved to death but it just didn't cut it when you rode more then 60 miles. The new arione is cool. I just got it and it is great, except for the hamspring problem.

I’m having the exact same problem as the OP. I can’t tell if it’s muscle cramping, fatigue or pain from my seat. After my 20 mile ride this morning, I could barley walk from the pain. I couldn’t feel the pain until I got off my bike and tried to walk around. Even four hours later, I can still feel a slight pain on my upper hamstrings just in front of my sit bones..

I think I’ll take the advise of the poster above and warm-up and stretch before go into to full gear.

I know this thread is old, so I’ll ask if anyone else has experienced this?

I realize I'm pulling off a 5-year bump here, but has anyone ever figured out what this is? It's happening to me too.

I agree with the stretching and warming up advice, but I think that conventional wisdom says to lower the saddle height as opposed to move it fore or aft, as one of the previous posters stated.
