I built my first wheel last night. It was a rear with XTR hub, black DT double butted spokes, Bontrager Valiant rim, and red and silver nipples. I took a ride on it today. It stayed perfectly true. I was amazed at how easy it was to do. I am very proud of myself. :D I just thought I would post and brag a bit.

Is there anything special I need to do after the first few rides?

Well done  Just keep at eye on spoke tension, and give it a true after a few decent rides. That goes for all wheels, not just freshly-homemade ones.

Once you've built your own wheels, high-end Mavic pre-built envy pretty much goes out the window, huh?

Thanks Punisher. ;)

Yeah if this wheel holds up I will never buy a pre-built set again.

I was curious about the tools you used to build your wheel.

I am assuming you had a spoke wrench and truing stand.

DId you have a tensionmeter?

I would like to try my own wheelbuild, and I am happy to hear you found it easy. I a curious about any tips you might have for a first timer.

Thanks.
