BMX for dummies

Im looking for a beginner bike for a 9 yr old. He is my girlfriends son and wants a street bike bad. I guess he wants the pegs and all to tote his buddies around on the back, but he likes jumping curbs and such. Im a mtn biker and know nothing about the newer bmx bikes. I come from the old days of roger D, diamond back, and mongoose being the bikes to have. What would you guys recommend as a beginner bike for him? He is a fairly small guy and can be pretty hard on stuff, so a department store bike isnt going to cut it for him. He is just under 4' tall if that will help with any info you can give.

Dpends on how much u want to spend though you can get some nice bikes at www.danscomp.com though you may want to start with somthing cheaper

for his size you have got to go with a haro X0...only 28 pounds and a super compact frame..you will just have to buy a set of pegs for him
