I just bought my first Mountain bike, I have been riding motorcycles for the past 7 or so years and decided to get a peddle bike again. I'm looking for some good trails around Hillsboro, OR and some people to ride with. My wife got a bike as well, so i'd be curious to know some easy and some hard trails. Thanks:ride:

I don't do much mountain biking myself, so I don't know about Powell Butte. Did you try any of the fire roads off the main trail in Forest Park? I've only seen them in passing, but they look promising.

Hagg Lake. Awesome ride, especially if you're new to mtn biking. Not overly difficult, about 11 miles around the lake. Some good size climbs, but mostly just rolling singletrack. $5 day pass req to park at the lake. I love the Hagg Lake ride. Always leaves me wanting more.

Rode this last weekend. It's ok. Parts are fun, but you have to get back on the pavement a lot. There are a lot of trails that don't connect. Lots of blackberry bushes so wear long pants and sleeves. I've heard that there is poison oak, but didn't see any.

I live about 4 miles from it, but it's probably 12 miles from Hillsboro. Lake is great.

Powell Butte is alright, for a close, in the city ride. You can ride the Springwater corridor to get to it. It's a pretty burly climb in places, depending on which trail you take to get up. The trails are pretty short, and it's probably only worth 2 to 4 hours of riding once you are there. Decent scenery, fun on a wet day, and the descent can be scary if your brakes are wet or there is other traffic.
