Yup. Our local bike shop (Bike Gallery, Portland) has them. Shouldn't be too hard to find. Salud!! -- Z.

The planetbike fenders looks 99% the same, unless I am missing some detail from the pics.

The 'slight' detail that you're missing is the lack of a safety release in the front fender, which helps the rider, quite reliably, to fly over handlebars when the fender locks up the front wheel.

You mean the Secu-Clip on the SKS fenders, right?

Yes, this might be the name. Historically, they came in in at least two different versions. You might not need them if you ride very slowly, never developing enough momentum to take you over the handlebars. This is not the case, though, for most riders.

I have never had anything catch in my wheel and put me over my bars. Even with full fenders. Not riding on trails, not even playing polo.

If those clips were critical, every company would offer them. SKS doesn't even use them on all their own fenders. Only big advantage I can see is for moutning them on the rear of bikes with horizontal dropouts to make wheel removal easier.

Those are the Fenders I bought at my LBS and have on my Hybrid bike. First the bad side: They are kind of a pain to install, and I was grad to have a good size bolt cutter to trim the ends. Second, on the good side, the Germans do make beautiful stuff. The SKS fenders are light, and look thin and delicate, yet are strong. The SKS comes with all Stainless Steel hardware, this has been a hugh plus on my bikes as I ride it year round in Buffalo NY. My wife and our cheap tandem both have Planet Bike fenders so I have had some direct comparisons. The PB fenders work fine, but compared to the SKS the look and hardware included for installation are a bit crude. On a nicer bike I would definitely spend a few dollars more and get the SKS. The SKS are top notch yet only cost a little more than the PB fenders. If you have a cheaper beater bike, or money is tight, then the PB will work just fine. Any fender is a major improvement over no fenders at all.

Happy riding,
André

I have SKS fenders on my hybrid single speed. Got them.......uh.......on the Internet. They're out there various places. Bolt cutters were indeed helpful for the installation.

Hornytoad, is the 37mm exactly 37mm in opening? I want to order a set for my Trek 7200 hybrid bike, I think the 37mm might be the better size as this bike has thinner 700C "road style" wheels.

I have! I put my PB fenders through my fork twice last year, resulting in oh-so-fun arse over teakettles. Really pissed me off, actually.

So far the SKS fenders I have on now seem less susceptible to it (SKS P45) because of the "chromo-plastic" design. The PB fenders were just plastic, and easily foldable.

I thought the SKS fenders were as easy to install as any of 'em, really. No biggie, just take yer time.

the (37mm) soma fender measures true at 38mm

the titanium color shown on the soma u.r.l. appears to be dark silver; in person, they are a lightish gold

they have not folded yet, but i did get pelted by debris on my lower lip on my new bike's pre-fender maiden voyage --- maybe it was just me, but i thought the chicks in class really dug the bloody chin and t-shirt.
