Training & Nutrition - the body's ability to retain weight

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hey all,
Just a quick question. Recently, I my weight has hovered between 140-145 lbs in the mornings. Through the course of they day, I drink around 4.5L of water and eat a good amount of food, all healthy at that, and on days I do not ride mostly comprised of good fats and proteins. My question is this: if I ever weigh myself at night (which I know is not recommended for I suppose this very reason), my weight is anywhere from 150-155 lbs. I don't understand where all this weight comes from. I'll have you know that generally good tends to stay with me for a few days, I normally 'go' only about twice a week. Where is all this excess poundage in the evenings coming from? It can't all be food, so is it water? I'm sure the answer is quite simple, but I just wanted to confirm my suspicions and see what you guys thought.
Thanks in advance,
Jon

Hi jbaskin,
I've had problems with water retention from eating salty foods like ham and of coarse I love to salt everything heavy. We all went on a diet at work and we get fined 5$ a pound if we gain . Scince Iv'e been doing this Iv'e been fined a couple times (ouch) It wasn't over eating it was definatly the salt in take! I switched off this week to Mrs Dash to kick the salt habit.I want to enter the biking season lean.

yea, I notice that I lose about 5 pounds every night. I gain it back by the end of the day, but it is kinda weird.
on another thing...you only **** twice a week? yimminy! I go at least once a day if not twice! it must be like giving birth, man!
BTW, salt is not that bad of a thing to have in your body. When you have salt, then you are just retaining water. its not like you are "fat"

you'll gain a couple of pounds when you're fully recovered vs. when your glycogen storage is depleted. it's actually mostly water weight, which the glycogen helps you retain. and it's a good thing lol.
