Hmmm...seems to make sense.

We must take into account, of course, that the researchers at University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia are hanging upside down at the bottom of the planet. That has to have some effect on their reasoning.

Nice to see some scientific confirmation of the concept behind my club's efforts to make our roads safer for bicycling by putting more bicycles on the road. It just makes sense to me. We are creatures of habit. The more often we encounter something, the more likely we are to notice patterns about it and to develop automatic ways of reacting to it.

I have always felt safer on the road during my summer vacations on Cape Cod. Even though the drivers are tourists, lost and often "under the weather", they encounter so many bicycles that they react differently than the routine "gottogo gottogo" drivers around my home.

Feeling safer however is always a relitive term.

Coming soon. At least I haven't gotten killed yet, but man, I'm riding the brakes a lot.
