Since my last HS football game i've been in front of 70,000 screaming fans photographing The University of Iowa. Maybe it's because i actually played for this team (i don't think that's it) but i really enjoy the high school games more.

This was the first game on this field since they renovated it. They put in (among other things) new lights. This went from the worst field i've ever shot to litterally the best i think. I was shooting at ISO 1600 f/2.8 1/400. My flash was malfunctioning so if it wasn't i probably would have shot at 1/500 and used the flash to fill in the shadows on the face. All in all i'm happy with these considering its been so long and i've only got a 200mm lens but i'm always open to input.

Working for a small weekly paper means your resources are pretty limited and unfortunately i couldn't find any stats, thus the blanks in my cutlines which my editor will fill in. The ones that are cut are the ones he got...

All of these were run through neat image

**i really have to work on these jube shots. The play was away from me and i photographed it knowing that i likely wouldn't get anything. After he crossed the line i turned to the coach and saw him in the air. By the time i brought my camera up he had already calmed down. Sometimes you gotta turn away from the action to get the action...**

looks pretty good to me, especially for ISO 1600.

Nice pics. Suggestion on the captions. Count how many times you used "Woodstock" in pictures 2 and 3. I suggest revising the wording a bit for a smoother read.

I don't make the rules man. I don't know if you've worked in the industry but every editor is different, all i do is try and appease the people who do the writing and since they make the rules those are the ones i follow ;)

*edit*
though i do see what you mean.

Helps to have that background. The pictures certainly are impressive. I'd end up with nothing but blurs.

Get some good shots of players not carrying the ball; blocking, covering, presnap, in motion. Kinda like picture number 3.

Catching, carrying, and throwing get boring after awhile. I know resources are small and maybe you don't know much about a team and aren't being payed enough to care, but there could be stud lineman on one team or someone with an interesting story.

Cool shots btw, I suck at action shots.

Limited by the gear in this department. I was a lineman in high school so i know that they need all the love they can get. Unfortunately, with 200mm it's rare that you can get a close enough shot at the right angle. But i try every game. Job soon = new camera gear :)
