Anyone have any advice for freeing up a stuck stem wedge from a quill stem? It's in there really good.

The standard way is to unscrew the bolt a bit, making sure it's still threaded in the wedge, and hitting bolt (or a wrench in the bolt) with a hammer. This knocks the wedge down.

With progressively larger hammers. I'm worried about damaging the fork if I continue banging away.

Can you get the stem itself out?
Take the stem out. Give the wedge a good hosing with your favorite lubricant. Let set. Thread the bolt back in a whack it again.
The wedge may also be jammed against the bottom of the steerer where it necks down. Flip the bike over and attack from the back side.

Don't hammer the wedge down if it's already against the brake bolt.

That got it, thanks! The bike has cantilever type brakes, so the wedge wasn't up against the bolt. Just needed to hit it from the bottom. *smacks head* now why didn't I think of that?
All set now!
