Your sets are not malfunctioning: That is cycling on your TV this weekend.

NBC’s Universal Sports, channel 5-3 on the digital spectrum, has been showing the Tour of Germany and the Univest Grand Prix, including the Univest Criterium at the moment.

Later this week Universal will be showing the Tour of Missouri and the Paralympic Games in Beijing, where Chicagoan Greta Neimanas (XXX Racing-AthletiCo) will be going for gold on the track.

And at 4:30 this afternoon, Comcast SportsNet will be showing the Tour of Elk Grove.

interesting. channel 5-3 is a digital over the air channel number. all one should need is some "rabbit ears" or a set top antenna to pull in this channel. some cable carriers proved them too. i will havet to check when i get home. i have 5-1 and 5-2, but didnt know there was a 5-3. later.

Ahem, same with me. I happen to have on OTA HD satelite tuner (DirecTV). I know I get 5-1, 5-2, but I'm not sure about 5-3.

Unfortunately, I can't program my HD Tivo from the internet on the OTA channels. Looks like I'll miss todays programming. :(

you may just need to do a channel rescan for the receiver to pick it up. however, my TiVo has been dead for weeks. i need to get a new one :(. later.

Seems like they are hooked up with WCSN as well. I had subscribed to that service last winter, but dropped it over the summer because I was never home. Good stuff on there too!

i am pulling the channel over the air via a little zenith set top antenna. now, if i could just get a new freaking DVR from D*. later.

Ahem ... fight hard for the gear you want. I upgraded to mp4 HD gear last year but it took 6 months. The good news is I got it all for free and had a $600 credit on my account. :) Just be nicely persistent.

It just occurred to me that it's great having cycling on Chicago TV, but it's on a channel that people don't know that they can get!

You can only get it if you have an over the air (OTA) tuner and these are fairly rare. Not too many people have an antenna any more. I had to fight to get a HD DVR with and OTA tuner and DTV didn't want to get me one (for free) but I eventually won. ;) I have an antenna up in my attic so it's nice to get OTA HD as there is less compression and fewer artifacts compared to the satellite signal.

I don't know about you fancypants "pay for tv" types, but I bought both my HD antenna and HD tuner at Circuit City. For people who want HD but don't want to pay monthly for it, it doesn't get any better.

Haven't had the TV in a few months, though, so I don't know about getting 5-3. I'll give it a try later this week.

Not necessarily related to the title, but to the discussion:

Universal Sports will be running the UCI world championship races next week:

I think that their coverage of the Tour of Germany has been pretty good. Not great in the abstract, but outstanding for cycling on free TV.
