Commuting - Canary in a Coal Mine

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Well, today is the first day back.
Working in a coal mine...
Ugh. I've already been out on new tires, my speed is back, there's no snow on the paths, but lots of melt off. Fenders, are our friends.
I'm going down down down...
The weather is nice, not too hot, not too cold. I wish it could be like this all the time. No chance though. A week off and trying to get psyched to go back to work.
I'm working in a coal mine, working...
I would rather be riding, than working.
I keep hearing DEVO singing "Working in a Coal Mine,"
Going down down...

I hope Naisme continues to open the windows of his mind a crack just to let us peep in once in a while...

Five o’clock in the mornin’
I’m up before the sun (using my lights)
When my work day is over
I’m too tired for havin’ fun (not true! we get to ride home)
Lord I am so tired (halfway through ride home)
How long can this go on (must keep pedaling, repeat)
I been workin’ goin’ workin’

Yes but workin in a coalmine is an old 50's - 60's tune.
But, getting back on topic, I'm sorry , there is no sympathy from me for poor baby Naisme who had a week off in the warm, riding and having fun.
However, after reading his post at home this morning, I did find myself humming a tune on the way to work. On this morning's ride ito work n the -7 C darkness, it was variations on a theme by Todd Rundgren:
" I don't want to work, I just want to ride on the bike all day" :D

Hey! I used that in my indoor cycling class (all about work/money) GREAT song.
Now I've got two songs in my head...the noise, noise, noise...

Riding in the warm and having fun is pretty much business-as-usual, here in Atlanta.
:D
(by the way, we are expecting a "winter storm" to come blowing in to our fair city tonight. We might get from 1 to 4 inches of actual snow, something that hasn't happened this year. I'm expecting the wood, bread and batteries to be gone from store shelves. :roflmao: )
The song is by Alan Toussaint, sung by Lee Dorsey. I had no idea that Devo had re-recorded it.
I associate it with my days in grad school as a research diver, bouncing around in the back of a van at 4 AM, headed for cold, pitch-black water. Cycling on a clear morning right after sunrise seems to me the antithesis of that experience. I do love that song, though. I'll have to look up the Devo version.
