So last night I was starting to plot a route for a possible tour next summer, the idea is to ride to Algonquin, spend a couple of days there, and then ride home. So I want to go roughly 75km a day, some days might be a little longer, some a little shorter, depends on where I can find a place to camp. So I plotted North from my house, and ended up near Sibald Point, that's 80km. that's a heck of a long way looking at the map, and that's not even a metric. It's also about 50m miles, so there and back would be an imperial century. I think sometimes we forget how far distances really are, because we get used to the high speed of motor vehicle travel, and how it really compresses distance.

What I may do, if I can get a trainer over the winter, is do a there and back over 2 days, I need some equipment first though, which requires money, I don't have, but I figure if I can pick up some minimal stuff, then I can probably do an over night.....

I took a screen shot of the route I plotted, just for entertainments sake on a rainy Sunday morning, when I woke up too late for church.....

I've got my overnighter training route planned out as well. It's about 44 miles one way out to a State Park on a lake. It has mostly rural roads, which offers less traffic, but fewer opportunities for stopping at any kind of commercial establishment.

I figure I have all day to do the mileage, and being mostly rural it will force me to be more self sufficient, at least artificially since help is but a sell phone away:innocent: I'm ramping up my mileage, and not riding with any load yet. I have my racks, but not much else. I need my bags, tent, sleeping bag, and stove. I'm hoping for some nice deals over the winter.

I have a chance for an epic ride from Dallas to Corpus Christie next Spring, but man oh man do I have some base miles to lay down before I can hope to hang with the group doing it. Realistically, I probably will not be able to do the entire ride with them, but may shoot for doing what I can and SAG'ing ahead and rejoining.

I have some climate advantages for winter training, so I might as well make the most of them.

50 meellion miles?? you are ambitious, sir.

This is a neat idea. I'm going to start thinking about a long ride for next summer.

That's a typo.... I mean 50 miles, actually the distance is 80.2 km or 49.8 miles, but it's probably a couple of km into the park, to get to a camp site, the next day will leave me at McRae Point, just South of Orillia. This is another Provincial Park, it's 75.59km. Basically I map out 75km, then look for the nearest Provincial Park, Conservation Area or KOA, then head there, so I expect each day to be between 65 and 85km.....

Wog, I came to the same conclusion last Tuesday when I came in 13Km shy of 100Km.
