I just picked up a 2000 Raleigh SC that is in rough shape and missing the front wheel for $80 on Craigslist. I am going to overhaul it and upgrade it to make it into a decent roadworthy tandem for my 5yr old son and I.
So far, I am gonna put on a solid fork, new downhill 9 speed wheels, a set of xt 9 speed shifters and hardware off ebay and a child stoker kit and keep the project under $400. Let's see if I can do it!
I just removed the heavy front shock, ordered new bottom brackets to replace the gritty ones, replaced the cabling and polished the oxidization off the frame.
