Fifty Plus (50+) - Multiple bikes required at BF?

I'm a one bike guy (just one rode bike). My other hobby is hunting and my buddies all have gun cases full of guns. Me... I've got one good deer rifle and a 12 gauge shotgun with multiple chokes. Now I suddenly find myself browsing craigslist in search of another bike for some unknown reason. Maybe I should take up Mountain Biking so I have a real excuse to own more than one bike. I even thought about buying a bike for the wife. Even if she never rode it I could have another chain to clean. Another bike would definately make my workshop look complete. Some of you guys kill me with the pictures of the current fleet of bikes.
Could it be that I would enjoy cycling even more if I at least had a second bike? :rolleyes:

You mention the current fleet of bikes that some of us own. Not unusual if you come to think about it.

You start off with one bike but then one day you realise that it could have a stable mate. So what do you look for?- Something that is faster- has more durability or is prettier. Doesn't matter really as once that second bike is aquired- you are hooked. Before you know it- The garage is a bit difficult to get the car into- Easy- Park the car in the drive or buy a shed to put the bikes in but that can be costly- think of the size you think you need for a new shed and double it. In that way you will not be buying a new shed in a couple of years time.

I am afraid that you have no hope- you are doomed. From now on Craigslist will be your second point of call on the computer whenever you log on (First will be BF)

You mention that you have one rifle and one shotgun......................that's N+1 from where I'm standing. How would that be different from 1 roadbike and one mountain bike. Don't try to hide behind semantics.

one fast road bike, a fair weather toy for club rides
one transportation and/or cyclocross road bike with racks, lights, etc.
one mountain bike
one classic road bike
one perennial project bike

One bike can't do everything and besides that - what do you do when your one bike is down for repairs. N+1 is a requirement - not optional.

The path is a logical progression. It can go either way, from Road bike to comfort bike or comfort bike to road bike. For me a comfort bike sounded like all I would ever need. I could ride by myself and go to the store and even pull a trailer. Then I thought what about a dirt road? And if I enjoyed a dirt road maybe I would enjoy riding a road bike with my friends on some of the longer rides. It relates to shooting I believe, I have a rifle, a shotgun and a pistol. Well I do have a black powder percussion rifle as well but how does that fit? Hold on a minute, do I need a classic or vintage to rebuild? :D

The key is the "cases full of guns". Put that many of anything together in such close proximity and they are bound to procreate.

The same is true of bikes. Most people keep them overnight in the same room. Lots of guys who started with just a road bike and a mountain bike suddenly discovered they also owned a hybrid.

You won't enjoy cycling more, but there will be more times when you can enjoy cycling. :p

You are starting to learn "The Way" Grasshopper. Soon you will be one wallowing in
wonderfull bikes of various shapes and sizes. Let us hear no more of this "One bike
