View Full Version : trailers anyone?
My wife/stoker and I were just out running small errands on our tandem last weekend. Due to a joint custody thing we have every other weekend to take off on a long bike. We were thinking it would be kinda cool to get a trailer for the back of the bike for shopping. You know, see if we could do without the car when the kids are gone. Who out there uses what trailer?

I have a Trek trailer that I have been using for about 2 years. I pull the kids around this metropark in it (crushed gravel trail). They are 2 and 4 years old approx. weight 65-70 lbs. pulls easy, stable. The trailer was like $200.00ish and it has held up well, you can hose it out easily and and it hooks to the frame fast. I own a Burley tandem and they just sent me a catalog, they have a large assortment of trailers and alternative hook up method which seems slick. Hope this helps.

Have you ruled out getting panniers?

We have a BOB Yak that works great. I have used it for about 3 years now. The tandem we have is a Santanna Arriva and BOB makes a fork for the trailer to fit the extra width of the back hub on the Santanna. I pull the trailer with my mtb also and it has withstood a LOT of use/abuse. It hooks to the QR so the centre of gravety stays low and I often forget it is behind us.

I also have a BOB yak. I haven't used it a whole lot yet, but the bit I have used it, I was very impressed. It's a well built trailer and is easy to hook up and pull. I had about a 50lb load on it when I went camping a while back and it worked flawlessly.

A Burley really helped to maintain stability, increase training value for the captain, and reduce wiggliation.
See the picture (& my picture) for what I'm talking about.
Have fun,
Tom
