does anyone have any solutions to the problem of glasses fogging up while wearing a balaclava? it's irritating.
Here's a handy-dandy answer (http://dirtbike.off-road.com/dirtbike/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=332665)for you.

The problems and solutions associated with goggles were recently discussed in another winter cycling thread:
I too wear eyeglasses with my head swaddled against the cold and Iím very happy with my solution to this problem (see post #5 in that thread).

Don't cover your nose.

I cut a small slit/hole in front of my mouth on mine. If you do this, be very careful to get it in the right spot. Wear it for awhile first to get it in the "usual" spot on your face. You may have to change your breathing so you blow out a little bit.
That made a huge difference.
Once it gets colder than about 35F, I switch to double lens ski goggles. Those have been good down to -15F.
I saw a link to one of these last winter and bought one. They work great. There is a little piece of metal that you can clamp down a bit on your nose to your breath goes down and out and not up.
