Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Fixed Gear Night Ride!

I took Malachi out to test out the new lights I put on for commuting and I'll say this......

Riding a fixed gear at night is an absolute blast! Absolute silence and pushing a 98 Gear Inch crank isn't that bad. :D I felt like I was flying. I did only forget to pedal once......and promptly got bumped up out of the saddle. :p I did get things back though and didn't get tossed over the bars. ;)

I'm definitely well lit, running twin 5 LED lights on the front, and my trusty cateye on the rear. One driver said I was blindingly bright. :D Not bad for battery lights from Walmart (I'm running the Bell Trail Lights.).

All in all, it was a nice 5 mile spin. :D

I think I'd jam my knees with a bike like that!:D..Riding at night is cooooool! I have a Cateye sumthin' and a Planet bike on the front. Cars flash their brights, I guess as if to say my lights are bright!:p

The next time you "forget" to pedal lock your knees and pull your weight forward a bit. It's an addictive habit, so make sure you have a few skid patches with your gearing.

I wasn't aware of the white belt phenomenon until Tom got his fixie. Yesterday in hugh fun ride I noticed a guy with a white belt. So I glanced at what he was riding a fixie/SS. He wasn't wearing tight jeans, but he was wearing baggy shorts with black socks apparently that is another fashion statement I have missed.

Actually, I just dropped down to 68 gear inches.....44:17. feels a bit more responsive dodging the meat pylons....I mean pedestrians on campus and more low speed control. It's also a bit easier to ride uphill now AND control downhill speed with and not have to use the brakes, just back pressure. ;)

i was going to say. 98 g.i. and you'd be doing 10 revolutions a city block lol. i find it hard to spin out with near 80 gear inches let alone near 100!! 60-75 g.i. is spin city but oh so fun and easy to lock up and skid your ass off

I like night rides too. Currently going for deer scouting twice a week - i.e. I have to get to the woods hour before sunrise. I do it with a cateye light on the front and flasher on the back, but being on a bike in your light bubble moving through the night is just amazaing experience with all the stars and sounds and smells of the night and Virginia country side.
