Road Cycling - Speedplay question...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Looking at getting speedplay pedals here pretty soon... Whats the difference between the X/1 and X/2's? And coming from SPD's, how hard are they to get used to?
Thanks..

i had very little adjusting time, X1 is titanium and over $270ish X2 is stainless (i use them) and go for $169. 48 grams difference between the two

Check out the Zeros while you are at it.
Coming from Look style cleats, it took one good ride to get used to the Zeros with a broad float setting. From there, it took 3 or 4 rides to dial in the float perfectly.

djbowen1 pretty much answered the question about the X/1 vs X/2 differences. I have Zeros and although they're a little bit different than the X-series in that they have adjustable float, everything else is pretty much the same. Having been through several different pedal types including Frogs, SPD and Looks, my ability to adapt to a new pedal might be different/better but I doubt it. I feel pretty safe in saying that the transition from SPD to Speedplay X or Zero pedals is straightforward. They operate in the same way. You stomp and go to engage and twist your heel out to disengage.
Note - you do have to be careful about tightening the mounting bolts on the cleats too much. Unlike SPDs, the spring retention mechanism is built into the cleats themselves and if you compress the whole assembly too much, you bind the spring making it hard to engage and more importantly, disengage. Also lubing the cleats is highly recommended.

How frequently do you lube the pedals? I have x2s and love them.

I have the X2's... had them since Xmas.. I love them.. coming from SPD's they took a fe rides to get used to the disengage point... but once I did... they are sweet... make sure you use some kind of lube on the cleats though... it makes it 100x easier to get and out of... it says to use white lightning... my LBS was out.. so I used Pedro's extra dry... works great :-)

In the summer with my riding schedule, I lube them about once a week... more if it's been especially wet. In the winters I use Phil's Tenacious every so often... no set schedule but just when it looks like it needs it. I occasionally take everything [cleats] off to wash them out too.
I've had the Zeros since Christmas on my new bike. I've spray-lubed them a couple of times in 500 miles, but I really don't think it makes much difference. They were a little tight at first, now very smooth on the float and click in/out. Excess lube tends to attract dirt.
I wouldn't risk taking the cleats off your shoes to clean them either. IMO, that practice is likely to strip out the threads in the shoes.

I ride during pretty wet and muddy winters and that's the only way to get out the caked in mud.
