Original post:
just changed my seat due to ass hurting probs to a Fizik Aliente. I have been trying to adjust my position to get back into a comfy feeling yet I seem to be getting a pain in my upper hamstring just where the hamstring meets the butt muscle. I tried stretching and moving fore/aft , I found comfort when I slid forward on my seat so I moved the seat forward nut the problem is only in one hamstring!! Can anyone suggest a reason why the upper hamstring would hurt. Could it be cleat position? The cleats seem almost the same yet I notice one thigh is closer to the frame while riding.

TIA

I have narrowed down my hamstring pain to being the cause of my foot putting pressure on the outer part of my foot (closer to baby toes) on the down stroke, this has put stress on my upper inner hamstring where the gluets meet, It all makes sense now. Now all I have to do is somehow level the shoe/cleat to apply power on the inner part where is more comfortable. How can I do this? I heard of shims are there any pedals that allow rotational float.

TIA

You probably should see a podiatrist or orthopedist that specializes in sports medicine.

You might benefit from orthotics. I've used orthotics in my cycling shoes for many years.

I'm curious about this. I've worn orthotics for nearly 20 years. I can't see any advantage to them while biking however. Their use is to mechanically correct the foot motion, change the roll of the foot as it strikes and moves through a step. If you use toe clips, they do nothing. If you are using clipless, it seems to me that there is still little or no effect?

Sheldon,

I have a high instep so I believe the orthotic helps dissipate some of the pressure from the ball of my foot onto my instep.

The orthotics in my cycling shoes do not have the heel cup that you'd find in running shoes. They mostly just support my arch.
