I've always wanted to do the Civil War Century but the hills scared me off. Well, my husband and I have put in a lot of miles this summer so I went for it. I also had gotten some feedback that the metric ride was not too bad. So, we signed up. I watched the weather intently all week and knew by Wednesday that Saturday was not looking too pretty. BBC emailed the participants regularly. On Friday afternoon the notice came SATURDAY POSTPONED but rescheduled to Sunday. As we all know these rides occur rain or shine. The logistics of moving a ride one day are nearly impossible but the BBC did it! And while I'm sure the work in their end was insurmountable to pull this off, KUDOS for a job VERY WELL done. If there were any less volunteers there it certainly didn't show. One of the rest stops at a fire house had to be "cancelled" since they had already planned for a car show on Sunday. So while I was a bit nervous that it was going to be 30 miles without a stop they managed to set up an impromptu rest stop outside of Gettysburg in a convenience store parking lot. The ride was great, the scenery beautiful, the weather PERFECT, rest stops well stocked and manned by friendly people.....what a great day. I even gave up my Ravens tickets for this (my nephews were thrilled). And then , just to make my day even better than it already was, Joe Flacco ran the ball 38 yards for a touchdown - woohoo! GO HENS!
Thanks BBC, thanks Barry and whoever else is here reading this from BBC. We had a great day!
