Road Bike Racing - BF Team Transferes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well it's that time of year in the cycling world, the pro's are announcing their new teams for '09. What's the transfer situation like here, who's going where?
Me I'm joining RacerX on Joe's Pro Bikes out of San Antonio. Another BF alum will be joining as well. I'm looking forward to hard but rewarding season working for/with these two and the other guys on JPB.

I let it be known that I was thinking about testing the free agent market. Several of the other teams pooled their money and came up with almost $36 to keep me on my existing team.

I will be retiring and coming out of retirement several times by next season in hopes that some pathetic team will pick me up for a good price. Say, a pack of Sports Beans and a Happy Meal.

Coming out of baby induced retirement to race for Peak Fitness Cycling out of San Antonio. Hopefully I will not run into Racer X, EDR and the "Un-Named BF rider" anytime soon!

Unless I'm sacked, I'll be with the same team next year as a sponsor and rider. As for 2010, it's up in the air as I plan to concentrate almost completely on time trials with the occasional master's race thrown in.

I re-signed with my current team. Verbal agreement Saturday night.
I will be focusing on stage races and hilly one day races, and riding in a support role in crits.
Personally, I'd like to help a teammate of mine become the 7th Pro we've produced as a team. He had some bad luck this year at U23 nats; he has the talent, but he needs exposure and support. I aim to help him with both by helping in any way I can, particularly on the uphill segments.

Had an offer from another team, but I'm staying put (unless I move to San Jose).
chances are i'll be leaving my current club, just as i get the kit (one of the various, although least important, reasons why i'm changing).

I'm still hoping to be picked up by the Global Locate southeast region squad.

No headhunters have come a calling yet, and I am too lazy to court other sponsors. Besides, my team has been good to me. If I relocate, things may change.

I'm planning on following Lance's lead and racing for free on that French powerhouse team, Non-Attaché.

I'm joining El Diablo Rojo and Racer Ex. I can't wait to have some numbers in my races. It looks like everyone on that team rides for everybody else, with lots of different race winners.
My current team is awesome for category racing, but I want to hit M35+, and they're all too young! Usually just me and maybe one other guy in those races.

I noticed earlier this season how many of my teammates raced the 35+ cat. Feels good having numbers in a race.

most of them would struggle with the written word, even at bf.net's rudimentary level.

I could have done that last year, but then I wouldn't have won so much money this year. ;)
And, now, I have a new something or other on the way. Madone perhaps?
It'll have Red up front, Rival down below and out back. Bontrager components, perhaps some ~80mm rims.
Oh, and my shop stole a bike from Trek's CA warehouse for me, and my MTB is getting here FRIDAY.

Yeah, I've noticed I have a couple of those guys in my Cat 3 state RR race this coming weekend... I'm only marking one of them though.
We are going to have a gooood time next season. I hope I can race a little more next year...

How did you guys old teammates feel when you told them you were changing teams? The thought has crossed my mind but I kind of like the bond we've built.. Even our wives and kids all hang out together at the races.
I also notice that other teams don't really have that bond.. Don't even know the names of their teammates...
"Searching" but then I'm only a 3 so that's kind of over blowing it. Cross season is always a good time to chat anyways.

I wish there were some local teams. :( But on the positive side, I get to be domestique, GC man and sprinter all at the same time.

There are quite a few p/1/2 teams that like to develop riders out here so I actually have a few that I am talking to. So far a few offers have presented themselves, I just have to decide. One is better financially, one has more guys I know and like on it. I think I'll end up on the latter - racing is more fun when it's with guys you want to ride for.

You should move to Michigan.
I'll probably stick with my current team unless I decide to race unattached. I'm hoping to move after I graduate so I don't know how much I'll race with my current team next year. Not many headhunters go after a gimpy Cat4.
Hi,
Same club and same Masters Cat 3 team that our bike shop sponsor (Kings in Seal Beach) started this year. Free kit, helmet, training tires, and other odds and ends -- and red and black kit instead of pink and blue.

Oh, I forgot to mention.
I joined my current team because I had friends on it; I didn't even know that I was going to get a cut of the money. That ended up being a rather nice, but secondary, reward.
I didn't want to mention this to my team director, but I'll be doing quite a bit of MTB racing next year, and some track racing on the weeknights. Just trying to broaden the horizons. I think MTB racing, if I don't get a chance to do many climbing races, could eventually become my best event.

I will be changing to a team so that I might have a few team mates next year. I did this year, but the current club has none in my category now, probably wouldn't have switched other than that.

Gas $$ was one issue. Racing at a distance got really expensive this year. I'll still race some of the great events I did at a distance again next year (Battenkill Roubaix and Giro di NJ - hopefully, for instance)
I met a handful of the guys on the team I'll be moving to over the summer and I've established myself with them well enough. They know me, I know them and we still like each other - so that makes it easy. I'm still "on my own" of sorts through Turkey Day and Capital Crit but I'll probably be in the new kit before we ride the BF ride on the 27th.

It would be great however. But, I'm not sure how this fantasy league thing works. Never done it.
