Mountain Biking - Balfa to possibly close their doors at the end of the 2004 year.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

There possibly goes another company.

Doesn't really surprise me for some reason. A lot of people thought they were popular when in reality they didn't 'seem' that common. Unfortunate to loose a good canadian company.RM is the only company left from that manufacturer (besides oryx which hasn't proven itself). RM bikes generally aren't as good on the dh circuit, which I think leaves a hole RM will really have to fill, I hope.
Don't forget Devinci, they are the other company that still makes mt bikes in Canada. There are a few road bike companies that still manufacture in Canada as well, Cervello and Opus come to mind.
As far as RM and downhill goes, I think their main problem is that all of their $ goes to their freeride team, and woman XC team. I recall a few years ago that their guy was #2 in the world on an RM9, granted DH design has marched quite a bit forward since then.

I know nothing about any road bikes. Never even heard of those companies. As for Devinci, oops. YEaH I did forget them.
I agree, their money does go towards freeride. Obviously their bikes could be used competitivly in racing just most people think only of freeriding. Also until this year their bikes had a bad rep for breaking. (not quite sure why they are so popular when their design was OLD) Wonder if with the slightly revamped RMX if they will become more popular with the racers.
I missed the point in your previous post about the parent company, Procycle. The makers I refered to are not owned by Procycle, leaving only RM as a quality Procycle mtb brand.
Also I've read now that the Balfa name may not be dropped, but the 2005+ bikes will be built in the big Procycle factory... right next to the CCM's... :(
