Has anyone used Keywin clipless pedals? How well do they perform?

Yes, bought them 5 years ago. Don't waste your money. They are not suitable for normal use. They do not have a mechanical retention system. You are held in by a molded plastic tab.

As a novice (cyclist) communting I had been encouraged to use SPDs. After my apprenticeship I progressed to Look and now that I race, I've turned to the Keywins.

There was a period of getting use to them after many years of using Look's, but it was significantly shorter than 5 years :-).

I found the locking mechanism to be extremely efficient and provided a very secure and tight fit that is far more definite in it's action than Looks!. (with no float the keywins feel much more secure).

The cleat is both much broader and low profile resulting in (what I feel is) better power transfer. And when I feel good about my pedalling action I tend to perform better. Another advantage is that there seems to be far less wear on the cleats than the Looks. So, for the same length of use I would have already replaced my Look cleats.

I asked around before I made the jump and found that pedal choice is almost religious in nature. In general, the serious riders I asked tended to prefer Keywins. So far their recommendation hasn't disappointed me.

As a final note, Keywins are also one of the lighest pedal systems (cleat+pedal) out there. I don't think that should be the first reason for getting anything on a bike, but......
