I was feeling a bit under the weather when my 4 yr old wanted to go for a bike ride (pulling a trailer) so I decided to e-bike this trip to our local suburban nature center/park on labor day weekend.
We got there and I proceeded to lock my bike up at the rack just at the edge of the parking lot where the brush begins, when I realized after about 30 second that I felt a prick, then another, and they were swarming all over me and the bike.
Anyway, it was those nasty ground bees and my natural abilities to flail, run and scream like a girl when confronted with such a situation must have prevented me from being stung too many times. Got 5 stings and my son didn't get zapped which was good.
Anyway, the strange thing is after I got away from the buzzing mess of what had to be a few hundred bees, they seemed to be centered on the front e-hub of my bike. I don't know if it is coincidence or not? They really seemed to be focused on it, some were landing on it. The speed controller was still on but the throttle was not sending any power to the wheel, at least not that I know of. Just wondering if there is some kind of high freq buzz or something (even with the throttle not engaged). I managed to get the bike back 30 minutes later by annoying them with a lot of mosquito repellant enough so I could grab the bike and trailer get home to nurse my stings. They still itch over 1 week later, but are almost gone, finally.
So, coincidence, or are these bee-magnets?
