I used to work as the Parts Mgr. at a BMW Motorcycle dealership. I built this as kind of the shop project... It gave the customers something to talk about when we weren't building other rigs.

Nice bike, What model and year is it?

It's kind of... well, very much a Frankenbike. The frame and motor were a 1974 BMW R90/6. To that I grafted the Earls type or leading link front forks from a pre-'70 Beemer via a custom fabricated stering stem. By leaving the headlight ears loose I could jiggle in the much larger (2 1/2" I think) late model headlight. To the forks I mated a Suzuki GS dual disk hub and machined some caliper mount tabs to weld to the fork.

The solo seat and rear box are euro spec Polezi items. The box is actually designed to house their police radio. At one point the bike had an 8-9 gallon Hooske fuel tank which almost sat on the cylinders. It was a sight!

The side car was a Russian made Ural chair that was also designed to work on the pre-'70 /2 BMW's. Again, big steel, sharp cutters, and a hot spark netted a robust 3 point sub-frame to hang it from.

One of my oldest daughters favorite things was to have me "fly the chair" while she was riding in it. Ah, but that was of a different time and in a different life, the world moves on.

I'd go to the store, come out and there's some ****** with his sticky fingered, snotnosed crumbsnatcher climbing all over it. And, they'd have the nerve to get confrontational when I asked them just WTF was going on! Some people... sheesh.

Its funny, but that reminds me of an Ann Landers, (or was it Dear Abbey), story from long ago.

A reader wrote her a very polite letter asking her to remind parents not to let their kids climb all over their motorcycles. Her response was that motorcycles posed an "attractive nuisance" to kids. Ie., it was the cyclist's fault for owning one.

Never read her column again. ;)

The nerve of some parents! I cannot even imagine letting my son climb all over someone's bike!
